Instrumentation for food and beverage

Food and beverage processing needs instrumentation that’s accurate, repeatable and clean-in-place ready: hygienic or sanitary fittings, the right surface finishes and materials that pass audit. The measurement has to be right, and it has to be defensible when an auditor asks.

Sector pressures

Why does measurement fail in food and beverage?

Cleaning is part of the duty

A product-contact instrument has to drain rather than pool, and stay free of crevices that hold soil through a clean cycle.

Audits bite on paperwork

Food-contact materials need a written declaration of compliance, so the right instrument without its paperwork is a finding.

The product beats the meter

Entrained air stops a Coriolis meter reading true, and pasteurisation at 72°C for fifteen seconds is a legal control point.

Our approach

How we specify for food and beverage

Hygienic and sanitary flow, level, pressure and temperature measurement, clean-in-place compatible valves, and the documentation trail to back them. Where a duty is unusual, the selection starts from the cleaning chemistry and the product itself rather than the line size. We specify across manufacturers, matching the fitting, the finish and the material to the process. Measurement you can trust is also where product and process waste is cut.

Resolving unstable steam control at a dairy

Problem
Under full steam demand from both evaporators the plant could not hold a stable temperature, and operators corrected the control settings by hand.
Specified
Positioner data showed one DN40 valve driving fully open at peak load. We specified DN50 bodies at Kvs 40 to give the duty the capacity it needed.
Outcome
The valves looked correctly specified on paper. Resizing them ended what the dairy called steam wobble.
