Application
Flow measurement, specified right
Flow measurement instrumentation determines how much liquid, gas or steam moves through a line, and how fast. The right technology depends on the media, line size and accuracy needed: electromagnetic for conductive liquids, ultrasonic for large or clamp-on duties, vortex for steam and gas, among others.
Flow: technology selection
| Technology | Suits |
|---|---|
| TechnologyElectromagnetic | SuitsConductive liquids, dirty media, no moving parts |
| TechnologyUltrasonic | SuitsLarge lines, clamp-on retrofits, clean liquids |
| TechnologyVortex | SuitsSteam, gas, conductive and non-conductive liquids |
| TechnologyVariable area / mechanical | SuitsSimple, local-read, lower-cost duties |
| TechnologyMass (Coriolis) | SuitsHigh-accuracy mass flow and density |
Our approach
How we specify flow measurement
No single flow technology suits every duty: a meter that performs well on clean conductive water is the wrong choice for steam, and vice versa. We specify the technology to your media and line. It is also where a plant finds its losses.
Sectors we serve
Flow measurement, sector by sector
Media, line size and accuracy vary by sector, and so does the technology that suits them.

FAQ
Common questions
Which flow meter should I use?
It follows the media, line size and accuracy you need. Send us the duty and we’ll recommend the type that suits.
What’s the most accurate flow meter?
For mass flow, Coriolis is typically the most accurate; for volumetric duties it depends on the application and the installation. No single meter is the most accurate for every duty.
We’ll specify the flow technology to your duty
Send us the media, the line size and the accuracy you need to hold, and we’ll recommend the technology that suits and quote for it.
