Application
Level measurement for process industries
Level measurement instrumentation tells you how much material sits in a tank, vessel or channel, whether by radar, ultrasonic, hydrostatic pressure or another method. The right technology depends on the medium, the vessel and whether it’s open or sealed. We specify the method to the application.
Level: technology selection
| Technology | Suits |
|---|---|
| TechnologyRadar (guided & free-space) | SuitsWide-ranging, handles vapour and varied media |
| TechnologyUltrasonic | SuitsNon-contact, cost-effective for open tanks |
| TechnologyHydrostatic | SuitsSealed vessels, liquids, proven and simple |

Our approach
How we specify level measurement
Foam, vapour, agitation, build-up and temperature all change which level technology actually works in a vessel. We specify level measurement to the conditions the instrument will meet in service, not to ideal reference conditions. Level transmitted to the control system is what lets a tank be held at set point automatically.
Sectors we serve
Level measurement, sector by sector
The vessel, the media and the compliance regime vary by sector, and so does the instrument that suits them.

FAQ
Common questions
How do you measure level in a process tank?
Radar and ultrasonic for non-contact, hydrostatic for sealed liquids, point sensors for switching, chosen to the vessel and media.
What’s the best level sensor for foamy or vaporous media?
Guided radar typically copes better with foam and vapour than ultrasonic. We specify to the condition.
We’ll specify the level technology to your duty
Send us the vessel and the media it holds, and we’ll recommend the technology that suits and quote for it.
